Hello from the "grave" my loyal fans. I know its been a long time since you heard anything from me, and for that I apologize. No doubt you are wondering what happened. Well its like this: closed label (plus) contract (plus) artist (equals) unwanted hiatus. But I'm a free man now so here I come dragging the Goats (or "The Country Funks" as they often refer to themselves as now). I have started a new record, my third, I know you ask third, what about the second? Truth is, I did make a second record for VFR that I'm very proud of, but I dont believe it will ever see the light of day. No worries though, come to the shows for I'll be playing lots of songs from that record. It's been a long frustrating year and a half, but as I like to say everything happens for a reason. I have been able to spend lots of time with my new beautiful daughter and wife and dog and so I can honestly say I'm grateful to VFR for closing the doors. I guess sometimes what seems like the worst thing can turn out to be the best thing that ever happens. Check the tour dates soon, 'cause the machine is cranking up again. Hope to see you out there, and thank you again for your loyal support.

Follow it,

MM

ps - I dont know when the new record will be out, I'm still in talks with labels; but this year I promise

Wow! Its been a long time since I last updated the journal! My apologies for my tardiness! I'm sure you've all been wondering whats been going on the last several months and let me tell you it has been a up and down ride! Well, first of all let me address my former record deal with VFR - yes I did say former. Over the last several months we have gone our separate ways. However, I cannot say thank you enough to Harold, Nancy, Paul and everyone else at VFR for the support, dedication, fun and friendship we've had over the last couple years!

While this time has been somewhat stressful, it has also been quite fun entertaining other record companies. I will have a new record deal soon! I promise! In the interim, "the Goats" and I are starting to hit the road to play a lot of the new songs I've been writing and recording for the last several months-

Thanks again for all of your dedication and loyalty

Dear Loyal Fans, Patience..... Thats' all I can say. It will be the first of the year before any new music is out; the wheels in Nashville turn slow sometimes. But fear not, the new record is done - I'm very happy with it and I hope you will be too. I know it seems like a long time since anything has been out, but trust me - something is coming! The hiatus has been good for me; I've been writing a lot, working on a new writers deal, and enjoying being a newly wed. Me and the "Goats" (Billy, John and Scott) will be coming to a city near you after the first of the year with veangence - and your faithful and loyal support will be rewarded! Until then remember..."the quick brown fox jumps the slow lazy dog."

Hello everyone! I know it's been a while since my last entry, but I have been working on a new record. And yes its finally done. It does seem like forever since the first one was released. But I have to say if you like the first one, you’ll like this one (I hope). It's a fun record, just me being me..... As many of you know, I was stranded out in California on September 11 - rented a car and drove 40 hours home with John Reynolds (Drummer) and Bill Davidson (Banjo). On that journey home we wrote a song called "More Beautiful Today". Immediately after arriving into Nashville, we went into the studio and recorded this raw, imperfect in many ways, and yet somehow beautiful song - a striking parallel to America, I think. Jim Brown played the piano, Curt Ryle played the guitar, and an amazing musician named Chris Carmichael played string quartet: that is to say he arranged and played all the stringed instruments on the recording that normally four people would play. I never intended to release the recording. It was simply written as a way for us to deal with the tragedy of 9/11. But because of the response to the song at live performances, the fourth of July coming, and the one year remembrance of September 11, I have decided to release on the website that same demo we recorded on September 14, 2001. Well that said, I'll be going - I promise it wont be so long till you hear from me again...

Hello From Nashville! Well its been a crazy week, because it's CRS week. For those of you who don't know what is CRS, it stands for Country Radio Seminar. Basically the record labels and the radio programmers get together to talk about the format, what's working, what's not working, showcase new and old talent, and most importantly: PARTY! Once again this year I rode around in a giant limosine (a Humvee) with my picture and Hometown News picture (a new act from VFR - they're great so ya'll check'em out) on the limo and took people where they wanted to go while I played live music (with John and Bill stuffed in there with me). It's a blast but after about 3 hours you get pretty tired. We did this Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Last year it was 6 hours a night, which late at night can get pretty ugly.

I'll be in Nashville for a while now writing new material and then tying the knot. So I'll be on a low profile until I get back from the honeymoon - then it's rock and roll time again! Tour dates for the spring and summer are starting to pile up. I hope I'm coming to someplace near you! Once again I want to say thank you to all that have sent the love...I feel it and I'm sending it right back at ya... Oh yea, I will be in Atlanta on March 9th to attend the Atlanta 500 NASCAR race and do a small concert and then, this is scary, they're gonna let me drive in the race!!!!!!! (Just kidding) I dont know much about racing other than its cool, but I'm exicted about learning! (Furthermore, for those who know me and for those who don't - I don't like to drive and when I do I drive like a Grandma.). Gotta go, but I'll leave you with these words of Sparkdom: "Try not to eat on an empty stomach."

Peace, love, health, and hapiness to you all.......FOLLOW IT!

Hello to all, I would just like to say thank you to all of you that have followed me this first year and that have been unbelievably supportive. To you all I am most grateful. Last year was incredible, wild, wacky, and wonderful. I hope this year well be even better. This being the first installment of the journal, things may change until I can figure exactly how the best way to do this is, so please be patient. I would also like to say thank you to the people that have emailed, sent letters, and picture requests. They are very much appreciated, however, as you can imagine it is not possible to answer all the letters and requests for photographs that come in, but we are working on that as well, so keep 'em coming! This past week I was in the northeast: Syracuse, Boston and Cleveland to be exact. The stations and the fans were awesome, as well as the venues. There is alot of history up there, and I enjoy history! I will be in town (Nashville) for the next little bit to get ready for the release of SDD video. Still working on some tour dates for the spring and summer and on putting together a full band. Until next time, remember: "FOLLOW IT".
